Flame-retardant board, officially known as copper-clad phenolic resin paper-based laminate, is a composite material boasting exceptional flame-retardant properties. This material is primarily composed of a phenolic resin-impregnated paper base serving as the core layer, with a copper foil laminated on its surface. The phenolic resin paper base offers outstanding heat resistance and electrical insulation, while the copper foil provides excellent conductivity—making this material highly versatile for use in the electronics and electrical industries. Notably, the flame-retardant board has achieved the rigorous 94 V0 rating, one of the highest flame-retardancy standards defined by the U.S. UL94 standard. Reaching this level means that, when exposed directly to flames, the board can self-extinguish within an extremely short timeframe—and crucially, it won’t ignite nearby flammable materials below, effectively preventing fire from spreading. As a result, flame-retardant boards play an indispensable role in applications where high fire safety is critical, such as in high-rise buildings, data centers, and even inside electronic devices themselves.
Features: Low cost, excellent moisture and heat resistance, minimal and stable bowing and warping, superior dimensional stability, ideal punching temperature range of 40–70°C, and easy to process.
Applications: Primarily used in consumer electronics such as televisions, tape recorders, radio-cassette players, audio equipment, game consoles, telephones, and household appliances.
In recent years, the application areas of these substrate materials have been steadily expanding—now even being used in power substrates for oscilloscopes (CRTs) and office automation equipment (OA machines).
